Rave Reviews For Jamey Johnson's New Album

Jamey Johnson’s Mercury Records debut, That Lonesome Song, is receiving rave reviews from the critical press as the record hits stores today and although the year is far from over, it is being touted over and over as 2008’s Best Country Album:

Paste Magazine - “This will be the best country record released in 2008. Hands down. This is wild, untamed music sung in a wild, untamed voice, and it’s brilliant.”
Miami Herald - “Johnson’s stark, cinematic That Lonesome Song is among the best country has offered in 2008.
American Songwriter - "The first great classic country album of 2008…if you like Jennings and Jones, Johnson is a shoe-in for heavy rotation new listening."
Associated Press– “This ex-Marine redeems himself with the gutsiest, grittiest collection released by a Nashville major label in recent memory.”
The Washington Post – “The deep-voiced Johnson has that sad-eyed, straight-talking, storytelling quality that turned Waylon Jennings and George Jones into superstars.”
The Dallas Morning News – “Mr. Johnson created a country masterpiece for all eras.”
Billboard – “That Lonesome Song is a testament to raw and real.”

In addition, That Lonesome Song received 4-Star reviews in Spin Magazine, The Houston Chronicle and The Tennessean.

Johnson, whose hits have generated sales of more than 6 million units for artists including George Strait and Trace Adkins, wrote or co-wrote 11 of the album’s 13 tracks. “For my money, Johnson is the best songwriter working in country right now,” says journalist Chet Flippo. “He strives to emulate, in his own words, the best songwriters, the Kristofferson’s and Cash’s.”

The folks at iTunes are early believers in Johnson and his music as well. They chose his song, “In Color,” to be featured on their main page as the Single of the Week this week.

On the day of his album release Johnson says, “I’m having the best time I’ve ever had in music right now.” He adds, “I know that I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.”
